About

Named for the phrase my cousin once used as a joke to describe the wilder side of my music tastes, Bricks Clapping in the Dark is the resurrection of an old blog revitalized for a new era of digital music discussion. With notable favorite publications such as cokemachineglow and Tiny Mix Tapes either calling it quits completely or pretending they’re still only on hiatus and holdouts such as Loud and Quiet and Pitchfork slowing to a trickle in recent months due to late-stage capitalism continuing to commercially devalue art and culture and other nice things, it's more important than ever to rekindle and celebrate the DIY ethos of sharing music recommendations and gushing over favorites that pervaded the internet in the '00s golden age of Blogspot and WordPress.

In this new incarnation there are very few rules, aside from the formatting of the post giving some very basic information, plenty of useful genre and RIYL tags, and one completely useless star rating out of five on a half-point scale. The reviews themselves can be as short as a haiku or as long as something you won't read more than the first sentence of, and the releases on blast will draw from any decade of recorded music history instead of just what's coming out now. Some of the reviews might not even be new as I intend to pull in some of my favorite entries from the now-defunct self-hosted incarnation of this blog, but I bet nobody will even notice. The best of the best will receive the elusive "Vinyl Fantasy" tag which will be perma-linked at the top of the page to always display those very special records in all of their glory. And of course there will be year-end lists sometime in December to reflect back on the year or any other kind of list whenever I feel like making one as list-making remains one of my favorite hobbies.

Hopefully I'm not the only one on the internet still enthused by the prospect of a music review passion project, but if I am this will at least serve as a personal diary of my listening and writing I can look back on in the future as often as I revisit Forest Gospel. If anyone out there is interested in contributing, let me know as it would delight me to no end to turn this into a collaborative space!
