The Goslings - Grandeur of Hair (2006)
Shoegaze / Noise / Drone Metal
Grandeur of Hair worships the kind of blissed-out, blown-out, scuzzy drone that incessantly rattles your speakers (and please don't listen to this on headphones if you know what's good for you). A slowly trudging funeral procession mired in the muck with dirge-like, wailing vocals buried six feet under the mix, often reduced to barely discernible cries for help beneath the lurching waves of hiss and heavy static. My rating for this probably increased by half a star with each track - settling into "Own a Car" took a lot of patience but after giving myself over to the towering presence of "Sanibel" and "Haruspex" and experiencing the euphoric climax of closer "Dinah" I'm now an unquestioning follower of The Goslings' dark religion.
